Danielle, this is no surprise. Many manufacturers, especially foreign, are just not aware of the tagging requirements of the U.S., and those that are and wish to adhere to the proper tagging laws have difficulty finding the right assistance, so they copy what others are doing - even down to the registration number. Many factories believe that once you obtain a URN, it will "automatically" be accepted and valid in the other registering states. It will be, but not "automatically". It must also be registered in the other states through applying for licenses in those other states.

You can check the licensing status of any factory by contacting those state officials and providing them with the factory name and/or uniform registry number. You can find the direct email addresses on our Global Registration Services, Inc. website at www.globalrsinc.com. You would need to "sign up" to have access to those email addresses. Unfortunately there is no single database of all registered factories, but Global Registration (affiliated with American Law) has registered over 1,000 factories and may even be able to recommend some suppliers for down/feather filled products. The website also list links for a few of the states that have searchable online databases of registered factories (under Resources). Another good source for suppliers of down/feather is the International Down & Feather Lab (IDFL) at www.idfl.com.

The state of NY does not require stuffed dolls or any toys to have a law label on them. Only the states of MA, OH & PA regulate stuffed toys for law labels.

We are finding in almost impossible to find manufacturers that the URN number is valid in every required state to produce down feather pillow inserts. Is there a list of companies anywhere that do have all of their ducks in a row? ( pun intended )
Also, is there a way to find out on my own if a manufacturer is valid in certain states on my own?
This is so frustrating..

Bedbugs are the worst, and they're in pretty much every area of the US now -- it's not a big city problem any more. All you can do is be especially careful and go all out at the first sign of any trouble!

Products Requiring Law Labels:

The following list encompasses all known products that require law labels. This does not mean that if your particular product is not on the list, that it does not require a law label. If you don’t see your product listed, please contact us at 888-LAW-LABEL for a determination. It may fall under a product category on the list – or we may consult with a state official if it is something new and different. Bottom line: if it is meant to be slept, reclined or sat upon, it will require a law label!

Baby Changing Pads, Bean Bags, Bed Pillows, Boat Seating, Bumper Pads, Children’s Car Seats, Comforters, Cribs, Cushions, Decorative Pillows, Dining Room Chairs,	Exercise Equipment Cushions, Filling Materials in Bulk Foundations, Futons, Mattress Pads, Loveseats, Mattresses, Padded Baby Carriers, Padded Toilet Seats, Ottomans, Pet Beds	Quilts, Reclining Chairs, Sleeping Bags, Sleeping Pads, Sofas, Upholstered Chairs, Upholstered Dual Purpose Furniture, Upholstered Headboards, Waterbed Mattress Liners

Sheryl,

You are correct about Maryland dropping their tagging laws in October of 2007. NY still requires law labels and registration for factories that manufacturer mattresses within the state of NY. We appreciate your feedback!

Everything I have read about law labels, the information pertaining to the states requiring registration is not up to date, Maryland dropped out 10-1-07 New York dropped out 7-1-97 which I did not know about and I filed the application and they accepted payment and issued me a number. I have requested a refund. Thank you, Sheryl
